How does AI work in real estate?

Lately, I have been seeing more and more AI (Artificial Intelligence) articles being posted. Note, I didn’t say written, as these travesties are far from written pieces of work. They are computer-driven cliched pieces of junk, with absolutely no soul and definitely no feel for the topic being discussed.
Here’s a sample: “Allowing Canadians to reflect on the diverse and vibrant nation they call home. With its stunning array of four seasons and rich cultural tapestry, encompassing Indigenous, French, and English influences, Canada truly offers a unique experience to its residents. Take a moment to recognize the fortune of being part of this great Canadian mosaic.” Or, how about this one: “Enjoy relaxed living in this well-maintained 3-bedroom bungalow, situated on a spacious lot in desirable Port Perry. This home features an above-ground pool—perfect for summer fun—and a single-car garage for added convenience. Ideal for families or downsizers seeking comfort and outdoor space.”
Pretty easy to smell AI when words such as Vibrant, remarkable, mosaic and seeking comfort are part of the play. Really, who says that? The other day, I mentioned to my friend, the neighbourhood was a mosaic of cultures. No not really, but you get my drift.
Many years ago, I was discussing the changing music business with my sister’s boyfriend and we got around to the topic of programming music. He thought it was the best thing ever because it gave the less gifted people a chance to write songs. I argued, THAT was the reason songwriters were considered gifted. They could do things others could not.
Can you imagine if John Lennon and Paul McCartney used AI to craft songs for the Beatles? I can guarantee it wouldn’t sound anything like what they came up with, even after their creative change, thanks to some mind-altering help. As a side note, if you haven’t seen the film Yesterday, take the time to give it a watch. It’s pretty good.
Back to our side of things. We have seen a ton of progress on the technical side of Real Estate. You can now E-Sign and send, via text or e-mail. Hey, in some cases, you wouldn’t even have to meet face to face with the client, and that’s sad. A good part of this biz is meeting people and establishing a solid relationship. Hopefully, one that would last.
Do you really think, gaining that close kinship would work, if you only talked on the phone or texted? Not a chance. It’s the same as trying to assess how you feel about a property by simply looking at pictures, as opposed to going to visit the actual property. Like the ad used to say, “There is NO substitute.” You get a feel for the area, road access, and a whole host of other things which would influence your purchase. I look at the limitations of AI in the same way.
I guess it would work for someone who wanted an easy path, but again, there is no substitute for the real work which goes into writing a description with the smaller details about your listing. Don’t think for a minute a fairly knowledgeable reader won’t be able to notice, because they will.
