Dear Readers:

Council finalized our 2026 Capital & Operating Budget. After much discussion and deliberation, our final numbers are as follows: Operating 2.9 percent, Infrastructure 2 percent and Police 1 percent. Affordability is always on my mind, when trying to reduce expenditures, in a tight budget year.

Some important projects for next year, in Ward 6, will be: the $6.7 million renovation of the Emily Omemee Community Centre, final exterior renovation of Coronation Hall, pulverization of two thirds of Kings Wharf Road, two new bridges on Mustang Drive, $600K of new gravelling, Thurstonia Drainage study and many park improvements and upgrades to name a few.

Our Roads Task Force was a tremendous success, when we held meetings in Little Britain, Coboconk and Dunsford, where over 100 people came out, as staff and Councillors, including myself, answered questions on roads and maintenance issues within Kawartha Lakes.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2026

Ron Ashmore
