BROCK: A 22-year-old man is dead following a late-night shooting in Beaverton, marking Durham Region’s eighth homicide of 2025.

Durham Regional Police say officers from North Division responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, November 16th. The call came from the area of Mara Road and Simcoe Street, where witnesses reported hearing several shots.

A short time later, police were notified a man suffering from a gunshot wound had been dropped off at a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the victim was pronounced deceased.

Investigators with the DRPS Homicide Unit have taken over the case and currently believe the shooting was an isolated incident. They continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Brock Township Mayor Mike Jubb said he has been in close communication with police as the investigation unfolds. “I have been in contact with the North Durham Police Inspector,” Mayor Jubb told The Standard. “There is obviously a police investigation ongoing in Beaverton, but he has assured me there is no threat to public safety, and this is believed to be an isolated incident.”

Police are seeking any information or video footage, such as dashcam or home surveillance, from the area around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Hollister of the DRPS Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520, extension 5415.
