NORTH DURHAM: Families across Durham Region will have several options to celebrate Family Day on Monday, February 16th, with a mix of free community events and low-cost outdoor activities planned in Scugog, Brock and Port Perry.

In Scugog, the township will host its annual Family Day Fun event at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, offering a full slate of free activities for families who pre-register for a time slot.

Activities include crafts, games, inflatables, balloon-making, face painting, and illusion shows. The event also features interactive displays with the Scugog Fire Department, a family photo booth hosted by the Port Perry Lions Club, and free public skating, sponsored by Scugog Mechanical and Puckrin Latreille Real Estate.

Children will receive a “Passport to Fun” to track activities, and completed passports will be entered into a draw for free summer camp registration. Free timeslots are available from 9 to 11 a.m., 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Families are required to bring their registration confirmation upon arrival.

Later in the day, the Port Perry Agricultural Society will host a free Family Day Winter Fun Event at the Port Perry Fairgrounds from 1 to 4 p.m.

The event includes horse-drawn rides, weather permitting, tobogganing and tubing on a volunteer-built snow hill, along with fire pits, complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, and live music in the entertainment shelter. Admission is free.

In the Township of Brock, families can take part in the Fair Havens Winter Family Day Festival in Beaverton. The outdoor event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features nature-based winter activities across Fair Havens’ 130-acre property.

Admission to the Fair Havens event is $15 per person, with children under five admitted free.

Families in Port Perry can also attend a free Family Day movie, offering a family-friendly film and popcorn as an indoor option during the holiday.

Residents are encouraged to check municipal websites for registration requirements and event details, and to plan ahead as some activities are weather-dependent.
