The brightness of this February 1st full moon, named the Snowy moon or Hungry moon by the native people, illuminates the very white, snow-covered earth. This makes Groundhog Day on the 2nd very hard for Mr. Groundhog to avoid seeing his shadow if he were up in the early hours of the morning. Of course, that means six more weeks of winter weather, but we’ve managed so far. Just a piece of cake. I do think of the many road-weary travellers as I watch the traffic on Durham 23 through my kitchen window.

I felt the 3.9 earthquake this past week, but didn’t really think much about it at the time until I was made aware of it the next morning. I thought more about the mild shaking of the bed and was glad I was awake at the time.

The Scotty tournament of Heart curling bonspiel’s Ontario rink was more exciting to watch as a Port Perry curler, Rachael Steel, was a player, and the team did exceptionally well.

Congratulations on all the Birthday celebrations this month. My calendar has several marked, but it's not nearly as full as the Munro family calendar, which has numerous birthdays this month. Best wishes to all who are celebrating this month in any way, making lasting memories.

A quick recovery is wished for Darlene Christie as she made an overnight trip to Markham/Stouffville hospital to have a painful hip replaced. I'm sure she is looking forward to her daily walks.

Church at Epsom United this Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., unless we encounter another blizzard. This winter has made planning more difficult than the last few have. Enjoy this “Real” Canadian winter!
