Closures in Scugog due to COVID-19

SCUGOG: The Township of Scugog has announced facility closures to combat the spread of COVID-19. The Scugog Community and Recreation Centre, Blackstock Recreation Complex, the Youth Centre known as ‘The Lookout’, The Scugog Memorial Public Library, the Fire Administration Office at 30 Crandell Street and all Scugog Community Halls which includes the Latcham Centre, are all closed to the public. The closures went into effect on Friday, March 13th, and they expect the buildings to remain closed until Sunday, April 5th. “Township of Scugog public events, open houses and recreation programs and rentals will be suspended as of 4:30 p.m. March 13th, 2020 until April 5th, 2020,” read a press release from the Township of Scugog. Though the Municipal Office at 181 Perry Street in Port Perry will remain open for the time being. As of press time, Scugog officials advised they are working on scheduling a special council meeting regarding COVID-19. Meanwhile, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has announced that all Ontario casinos, including Great Blue Heron Casino on Scugog Island, will temporarily close. “The health and safety of casino customers and employees is a priority for OLG and its service providers,” read a press release from OLG. “This action is consistent with the recommendations of the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, related to new precautionary measures for COVID-19. OLG will provide an update on when the casinos will re-open, taking into account guidance from public health authorities. We look forward to welcoming back customers and employees at that time.”
