SCUGOG: The Scugog Memorial Public Library is calling all builders, young and young-at-heart, to get creative, with plastic bricks this summer, in the return of its ever-popular building contest.
From August 6th through August 10th, local LEGO enthusiasts can drop off their entries, for a chance to win one of several great prizes, including one of five official LEGO building kits. The contest is open to all ages, with five unique categories, tailored to different age groups and team entries.
“This event is one of our favourites every summer,” said, library staff member, Sarah White. “We love seeing the incredible imagination and engineering skills which go into these builds. Every year, participants surprise us with their creativity, from dragons and castles to spaceships and working machines.”
The five contest categories this year are: Little Builders (ages 3-6), Junior Builders (ages 7-9), Builders (ages 10-12), Master Builders (ages 13-18), and Construction Team, which is open to groups of family members or friends of any age.
Completed entries must be dropped off at the library during regular hours, from Wednesday, August 6th to Sunday, August 10th. All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m., on the final day. Each entry must be accompanied by a completed registration form, available at the library or downloadable from scugoglibrary.ca/brickmasters. Participants may submit up to two entries each.
The public will be able to view the creations, on display at the library, from Monday, August 11th to Sunday, August 24th. Winners will be selected and notified during the week of August 17th.
Library staff say, the contest is more than just a fun competition.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for families to work together, for kids to stretch their creativity, and for our community to come together and admire what can be built out of something as simple as plastic bricks,” added Ms. White. “It’s amazing what people can do when they let their imaginations run wild.”
Entries will be available for pickup between August 25th and 30th.
