KAWARTHA LAKES: The Boys and Girls Club (BGC) of Kawarthas is commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Warehouse Youth Centre, with a celebration at the end of the month. There will be games, an open mic, and light fare, to honour the decade of opportunities provided to youth in Lindsay and the surrounding area.

Since 2013, the Warehouse has been offering a variety of programs and mentorship to youth, primarily between the ages of 12 and 18.

“The number of youths attending this drop-in centre, which is located at the back of our facility, on Lindsay Street near the outdoor basketball courts and new skate park, has grown significantly over the years,” shared Amy Terrill, Executive Director. “An average of 150 youth per week now come through our door, either on their own or by catching one of our buses from the high schools.”

With the support of local donors and foundations, the Warehouse provides a safe and welcoming space where youth can build confidence for life. “Sharing a game or playing pick-up basketball, creating music together, or gathering around the harvest table for daily meals, our youth grow their life skills, lasting friendships and access to supports for physical fitness, education, employment and other leadership roles,” said Christina Mabee, Youth Services Coordinator, “

The anniversary party will occur Friday, September 29th, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., at 107 Lindsay Street South, in Lindsay, and doors open at 6 p.m. The party is exclusive, for current and former youth, staff, volunteers and community partners. Everyone is encouraged to RSVP, for the gathering, by email, to warehouse@bgckawarthas.com.

BGC Kawarthas expects other announcements of commemorations throughout the year. You can follow the BGC Warehouse on Instagram for further updates.
