BROCK: A long-time community greenspace in Beaverton will now be preserved for generations to come, after the Township accepted the donation of Fox Park from the Beaverton & District Conservation Club.
The matter was discussed at the October 14th council meeting, when, Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, Wayne Ward presented a report recommending the Township assume ownership and maintenance responsibilities for the park.
“Fox Park has long been a peaceful spot for local residents,” said Mr. Ward. “This generous donation allows the Township to preserve that space and continue to make it accessible for everyone in the community.”
Located near the Foster Hewitt Memorial Community Centre, Fox Park stretches along the Beaver River to the north and Simcoe Street to the south, with the CN Rail corridor to the west. Over the years, the park has been enhanced with gardens, benches, and a gravel pathway, making it a valued natural space in the heart of Beaverton.
The Beaverton & District Conservation Club, which had maintained the property for many years, informed the Township that it could no longer manage cleanup or upkeep, due to the extent of ice storm damage earlier in 2025. Several trees were damaged or downed, blocking pathways and requiring professional removal.
Recognizing the importance of the park to the community, the club offered to gift the land to the Township, originally donated to the club by the Fox family.
“We’re proud of what Fox Park has meant to Beaverton over the years,” said Michelle Graham of the Beaverton & District Conservation Club. “It’s a beautiful space, and by transferring it to the Township, we can ensure it continues to serve residents and visitors for generations to come.”
Council directed staff to proceed with cleanup work, which will be completed by a certified arborist, at a cost of $2,800 plus HST. The Township also plans to commission a plaque, recognizing the Beaverton & District Conservation Club’s contribution and commitment to local green space preservation.
Mayor Mike Jubb praised the move as an example of community collaboration and stewardship.
“This is a wonderful example of community spirit,” said Mayor Jubb. “The Conservation Club’s donation ensures Fox Park will continue to be a space where families, visitors, and nature enthusiasts can enjoy the outdoors, right here in Beaverton.”
The property will now be added to Brock Township’s asset management inventory, joining the network of parks and open spaces maintained by the municipality.
A date for the installation of the recognition plaque will be announced once cleanup work is complete.
