BROCK: A long-running community tradition continues to support local groups across Brock Township, as more than $18,000 raised through the Annual Township of Brock Charity Golf Tournament has been distributed to community organizations.
At a late-April council meeting, township officials celebrated the funding, which was awarded to 14 organizations spanning youth sports, arts, culture, and heritage. The tournament, now in its 26th year, has become a cornerstone fundraising event, bringing together residents, businesses, and sponsors in support of grassroots initiatives.
Mayor Mike Jubb highlighted the broader impact of the event, noting it strengthens community ties while providing meaningful financial support. “This tournament is a great example of what makes our community special,” Jubb said. “It’s not just about a day on the golf course, it’s about giving back and making sure our local organizations have the support they need to thrive.”
This year’s recipients include the Beaverton Curling Club, Beaverton Skating Club, Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters North Durham, Brock Minor Hockey, Brock Rugby, Cannington Horticultural Society, Cannington Lawn Bowling Club, First Act Youth Company, Royal Canadian Legion branches in Beaverton and Cannington, Sunderland Historical Society, Sunderland Lions Community Theatre, and Sunderland Stingerz Ringette.
Councillor Lynn Campbell emphasized the wide-reaching benefits of the funding. “These funds go a long way in supporting the volunteers and organizations which keep our communities active and connected,” Campbell said. “It’s wonderful to see such a diverse group of recipients benefiting from this initiative.”
Township representatives also acknowledged the continued success of the tournament, crediting sponsors and participants for sustaining the event over more than two decades, even as demand for funding continues to grow.
Preparations are already underway for the next event. Registration is now open for the 27th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, scheduled for June 18th. Organizers encourage residents, businesses, and sponsors to take part in a day which combines recreation with community investment while supporting organizations that help the township thrive.
