NORTH DURHAM: The 65th edition of the Sunderland Lions Music Festival gets underway on March 26th and 27th at Port Perry High School, featuring elementary and secondary school bands, followed by piano, vocal and instrumental classes on April 8th through April 24th at the Sunderland Town Hall auditorium.

The festival has been presented annually by the Sunderland Lions Club since 1958, with a three-year hiatus in 2020, 2021 and 2022 due to Covid.

The festival provides an opportunity for young musicians from throughout the North Durham Region and beyond to perform publicly and receive professional adjudication. Over 100 different piano, vocal and instrumental classes are available for performers to choose from.

“We were eager to re-start the festival in 2023, and although the number of entries was down that year compared to pre-Covid years, they have rebounded nicely in both 2024 and 2025”, said Lions Music Festival Chair, Tony Laundrie.

Class winners will be featured at the “Stars of the Festival Concerts” on the evenings of April 22nd, 23rd and 24th. For further information on the festival, including the 2025 festival syllabus and program, go to www.sunderlandlionsmusicfestival.com.
