Africa is famous for its large mammals, and many tourists go there to get a firsthand view of some of their spectacular beasts. However, there are many other amazing animals to be seen there, in particular a great diversity of birds.

James and Lynda Kamstra took just such a trip through the Serengeti Plains and some of the great national parks of Kenya and Tanzania. The wildlife was awesome with the Great migration of many thousands of zebras and wildebeests, as well as a great numbers of elephants, giraffes and various types of antelope. They were also thrilled with the spectacular bird life, so visible on the open Savannah. Eagles, Hawks and vultures of various kinds soaring through the sky, and beautifully patterned birds perched on bushes, such as bee-eaters, rollers, whydas and sunbirds to name a few. Where there was water, flamingos, ibises, lapwings and others could be seen in great numbers.

James Kamstra is an ecologist and environmental consultant, who has led nature tours to many diverse and exotic lands. Lynda Kamstra is a retired teacher and former environmental educator.

James and Lynda will share photos, videos and stories of their adventures on the African plain at, the June 23rd, North Durham Nature (NDN) club meeting, at the Uxbridge Seniors Centre, in Uxbridge, at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to this presentation. Visit www.northdurhamnature.com for information about our outings and other talks.
