KAWARTHA LAKES: Barbara Truax joined the Kawartha Lakes Food Source Board of Directors on July 10th, 2002, at the very beginning of our organization and remained an active committee member until October 2017. Though having taken a less active volunteering role in the past years, Barb still continues to support KLFS events and shares her experience and expertise with staff and volunteers.
To honour the contributions, dedication and positive energy of our longest-serving volunteer, in 2018, we established an award in her name.
The Barbara Truax Volunteer Award is presented annually at the KLFS Volunteer Appreciation event.
The recipient must embody the following: have been an active volunteer with KLFS, for more than three years; be a positive force within the community; be committed to the cause of supporting those who feed our hungry.
This year, the award goes to Patty Jones. Patty joined Kawartha Lakes Food Source in 2018 and has proceeded to become integral to our operations. She gardens in our Open Garden beds, she picks up donations from our community partners who house our blue barrels, and she has travelled across the City of Kawartha Lakes to deliver the ingredients for our Family Cooking Project. All of these roles; and she still wants more, in her effort to help as many people as she can.
“Patty brings a tremendous positive energy with her wherever she goes and completes any task she’s assigned with a smile,” says Community Engagement Coordinator Kate Dorotheou of the hardworking volunteer. Patty is also one of the volunteers with the most accumulated volunteer hours, having worked over 140 hours in 2021.
Join us in thanking Patty for her tireless efforts, making a difference in her community!
