The Amazing Math Race

Recently, on Wednesday, April 24th, Greenbank Public School hosted The Amazing MATH Race, an interactive event designed by principal Natalie Wood. Ms Wood described this initiative as, “A way for students to explore Math in a fun, meaningful, and collaborative way, highlighting the new 2020 Ontario Curriculum, through cross curricular subjects.”

Students were encouraged to explore and apply innovative ways of analyzing and completing math challenges.

The rules were simple. Classes of students were put into teams and given passports. They had to cross the seven continents, each classroom was a continent, to successfully complete Continents Math Challenges and get their passports stamped.

On route, they had to successfully navigate through the Fitness Detours which were introduced as obstacles, as they tried to transition across these seven continents. Later in the evening, over 70 families participated in the final stage of the race which focused on the Oceans Math Challenges.

Completed passports enabled students to enter their names in a draw, for a Botley 2.0 or a Dash and Dot Programmable Robot.
