SEAGRAVE by Barb Martyn

Space between us can keep us safe. As we keep 6 feet, two meters apart, let’s remember the literal distance is temporary. We isolate now, so that when we gather – no one is missing. It is our humanity that connects us. We have become more connected by being creative, resourceful, loving and kind. We are learning to live one day at a time and appreciating the simple things in life. We continue to live in hope.

Ross and Jean Short would like to express their sincere thanks to their Seagrave United Church friends for their parting gift. They will miss them all, but are starting a new chapter in their lives and they want you to know that Seagrave will always be home! Thank you also to all the people who helped them pack, and who helped in the actual move. They hope when this pandemic is over they can have visitors, or can go back and visit Seagravers. God Bless everyone.

Happy Birthday wishes to Ruby Dusty on January 28th, and Mya Puckrin on February 1st.

Greenbank Seagrave Pastoral Charge is inviting the community to participate in “Who’s That Baby” contest during the month of February. Every Monday they will send out a few baby pictures, and you can guess who they are. Tune into the Sunday morning service at seagrave-church.com, or greenbankuc@gmail.com, or You Tube the following week to find out who the cuties are. They hope you join in the fun. Submit your baby pictures to Rev. Stephanie Richmond at gspastoralcharge@gmail.com or text 905-718-8086.

Sunday, January 24th, was the third Sunday after Epiphany. The scripture readings were Jonah 3:1-5, 10 and Mark 1:14-20. God is ever present in our lives.

February 20th, is the “Coldest Night of the Year” walk. If you wish to participate or get information, contact Rev. Stephanie by email at gspastoralcharge@gmail.com or by phone at 905-718-8086. You can walk on your own, or somewhere you can physically distance. Proceeds will go to North House.

Beginning February 1st, Port Perry Taxi Co. will be collecting empty beer, wine and liquor containers, with all proceeds being donated to Operation Scugog Food Bank. They will also collect and drop off food donations. To arrange a pickup time, call 905-213-4690.

Thursday, January 28th is Bell “Let’s Talk Day”. Now, more than ever, every action counts. Bell will donate 5 five cents towards mental health initiatives in Canada for every applicable text, call, tweet, Tik Tok, social media video view, facebook frame or Snapchat filter, using #BellLetsTalk. Help make our voices heard in the conversation about mental illness.

Your mental health is so important – more important than the test, the interview, the lunch date, the meeting, the family dinner, the football game, the appointment and the shopping-run. Mental health needs more unashamed conversation, and more sunshine. You don’t have to struggle in silence. Take care of yourself.
