Scugog receives an award for their municipal technological improvements

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: The Township of Scugog has been given an award of excellence for the customer service improvements they made through technology.

Earlier this month, the Township was awarded an ‘Excellence in Municipal Systems’ award by the Municipal Information Systems Association of Ontario (MISA).

“The Municipal Information Systems Association of Ontario (MISA) Awards, looks to recognize people and organizations for excellence in the use and delivery of technology,” an online post on the MISA website states.

The site also describes the award the Township received as “an award for both an Ontario municipality and one or more individuals within the municipality who have successfully undertaken a significant initiative or set a new standard that other municipalities may follow.”

Scugog was one of six winners in this category. The others include the Region of Durham, Town of Ajax, City of Windsor, Halton Region and the City of Kitchener.

“There were 16 applicants. The good news is of the six [winners], three were from Durham Region,” Mayor Bobbie Drew said, at a meeting on Monday, June 20th.

She added the technological improvements the Township has implemented are “a great addition to the services we can provide to our residents.”

CAO Ken Nix talked about what this award means for the Township.

“This shows that although we are early in our journey, so far, we’ve worked at building a solid foundation for the future. We’re starting to see some of the results, and we’ll see more examples of this as we move forward. I think it recognizes we’re on the right track in creating technology which will benefit our residents and staff.”
