Raising Our Immunity as a Community

I wondered how current events have influenced the community as a whole. We certainly cannot take for granted the gift of health. The effect on our environment at large has been truly monumental. It shouldn’t take a global pandemic to bring awareness to some very obvious facts. Our wellness effects global wellness. The choices we make have a distinct effect on the world at large. There’s no better way to raise your immune system then by making the choice to exercise. According to the Medline Plus website: • “Physical activity may help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This may reduce your chance of getting a cold, flu, or other illness.” • “Exercise causes change in antibodies and white blood cells (WBC). WBCs are the body’s immune system cells that fight disease. These antibodies or WBCs circulate more rapidly, so they could detect illnesses earlier than they might have before.” Due to people staying home and limiting travel, the level of air pollution has decreased dramatically. Think of those who suffer from chronic lung diseases such as COPD or Asthma. These individuals tend to be the most vulnerable of our community. You have to keep in perspective that your decision to walk or bike to work does have an effect on those around you. I can’t think of a better way to boost your immunity and support your community by eating better. You can enjoy local produce and meat. You don’t have to travel far to enjoy quality food. Change truly begins with you. It starts when each and every person makes a decision to act. The healthier we are as a community, the better our ability to manage and deal with stressful situations.
