Lumberjacks lose the latest edition of the ‘Battle of North Durham'

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: On a snowy Sunday, November 20th, the Port Perry Lumberjacks lost a high scoring game against their rival, the Uxbridge Bruins.

The game was held at Scugog Arena. Just 19 seconds into the first period, the Bruins scored, putting Port Perry behind 1-0. Then, nearly eight minutes in, the Bruins expanded the lead to 2-0 with a goal. With less than four minutes remaining in the period, Jacob Lemere scored, cutting the deficit in half. Then, in dramatic fashion, with just 45 seconds left in the period, Nick Chokrev-Cerpnjak put the puck in the net, tying the game at 2-2.

However, the Bruins struck with three goals in the second period, putting the Lumberjacks behind 5-2.

The Lumberjacks started to chip away at that deficit in the third period. Almost four minutes in, Lemere scored, making it a 5-3 game. 64 seconds later though, the Bruins scored, restoring the three-goal deficit. Then, over a minute later, Mark Stoop put the puck in the net, and the score was 6-4. With a little over four minutes remaining in the period, Chokrev-Cerpnjak scored his second goal of the game, and the Lumberjacks were within a goal of tying the game. But the Bruins added an empty net goal late in the period, and Port Perry fell by a score of 7-5.

One Timers:

The Lumberjacks will have another opportunity to tame the Bruins in a game in Uxbridge, on Friday, November 25th, at 7:45 p.m.

The Lumberjacks’ next home game, at Scugog Arena, is on Sunday, November 27th, against the Little Britain Merchants. That game will begin at 2:25 p.m.
