UXBRIDGE: On December 30th, 2023, an Uxbridge curling team, Team Fisher, won the Runback U18 (under 18) Championships.

Team Fisher is made up of boys between the ages of 14 and 15 years old.

"It was kind of a big accomplishment [for the players] to take on mostly older boys in this division and actually come home with the banner," said Mr. Kevin Greenwood.

The banner Team Fisher won will feature the player's names. And it will be hung up in the Uxbridge Curling Club.

Now, Team Fisher can move forward and compete in more competitions.

"They are competing [a little bit] above their age level," said Mr. Greenwood.

The U18 Runback Competition had many other players from all across Ontario and even a few teams from the United States.

Mr. Greenwood is also a parent to one of the players on Team Fisher.

He and the team's coach have been with Team Fisher since the players were about eight years old. They have watched them grow up and improve their curling abilities over seven years.

"[Team Fisher has] been working hard for a number of years, both on and off the ice," explained Mr. Greenwood.

Since Team Fisher has won the Runback U18 Championships, they have been granted free entry into the Under 21 World Financial Group (WFG) Canadian Junior Cup.

Suppose Team Fisher wins the WFG Canadian Junior Cup. In that case, they will be going to Switzerland and competing against teams from Europe and Canada.
