Kawartha Lakes asks residents to limit water use

KAWARTHA LAKES: With temperatures rising outside recently and COVID-19 keeping more people at home this year, the City of Kawartha Lakes is asking residents to be mindful of their water usage. “The City of Kawartha Lakes is asking all residents in our smaller communities that are on municipal water services, to kindly implement water conservation practices. Residents (and summer visitors) are spending more time at home this summer resulting in greater than normal use of water. Some of our smaller groundwater systems are experiencing difficulties maintaining this increase, making it necessary to haul water to the treatment facilities to meet demand,” read a City of Kawartha Lakes press release. Local communities or facilities affected include Birch Point, Janetville, Canadiana Shores, King’s Bay, Omemee, Mariposa Estates, Manorview, Sonya, Pinewood, Pleasant Point, Woodfield, Manilla, Woodville, Western Trent Palmina and Victoria Place. “When it comes to conserving water, even small adjustments can have a big impact,” the press release stated. Some water conservation practices the City is recommending include limiting washing of vehicles, using a broom instead of water to clean driveways and sidewalks, taking shorter showers and limiting lawn and garden watering.
