Cynthia Moody Bess 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament returning to Lindsay

by Jay Meiliunas

KAWARTHA LAKES: Mr. Paul Riley of Riley Divorce & Family Law Firm has decided to give back to the community by raising money to subsidize the first year of continuing education at a university or college for disadvantaged young men and women.

The second annual Tournament and scholarship hosted by Mr. Riley is in its second year. It will feature a three-on-three basketball tournament, emphasizing fast, strategic play and creating an exhilarating, high-speed competition.

This 3-on-3 Tournament is more than just a competition; it's a way to bring the community together while raising funds to support students pursuing higher education.

The Tournament is named after Paul Riley's mother, Cynthia Moodie Bess, a dedicated educator and single mother who always emphasized the value of education. She often shares this poem as a guiding principle:

In the spirit of Cynthia's commitment to education, this Tournament helps create opportunities for young people to further their academic journeys.

"Labour for learning before you grow old.

For learning is better than silver or gold.

Silver or gold will vanish away,

But a good education shall never decay."

The tournament organizers have been tirelessly working to bring families, friends, and local businesses together for a Weekend of fun and camaraderie. The Tournament is to be held on the weekend of May 31st to June 1st and is open to age groups under 12, under 13, under 14, and under 15/16, with varying skill levels, ensuring everyone can participate and enjoy the event.

"This Tournament is about more than basketball; it's about investing in the future of our youth. By supporting young athletes both on and off the court, we're reinforcing the values of education, teamwork and perseverance that Cynthia instilled in her children and has championed for years." shared Tinoye Adeniyi-Taiwo, Director of Communications at The Riley Firm.

The event is being held at the BGC (Boys and Girls Club) Kawarthas, at 107 Lindsay Street. The entry fee for the Tournament is $60 per team, with four players per side and three games guaranteed.

We're grateful for the support of our sponsors, who have supported to make this event possible. We are open to more people in the community getting involved. Some of the event's sponsors are Jami Joy, Real Estate Agent and many others.

Registering for the Tournament is a breeze. Simply email Jill.sutherland@rileyfirm.ca or call 705-324-4090 to secure your spot in this exciting event. We can't wait to see you there!

Much like mastering shortcuts in Beach Buggy Racing on PC, players will need strategy and agility to outmaneuver opponents and claim victory. Both events celebrate skill, teamwork, and the thrill of the game.
