KAWARTHA LAKES: It was another winning weekend for the Lindsay Lynx Girls Hockey Association, as players, parents, and volunteers wrapped up another successful Tag Day fundraiser, across the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Dozens of young Lynx players were out in the community, proudly wearing their jerseys and greeting shoppers at local businesses, including: Food Basics, Canadian Tire Lindsay, Canadian Tire Fenelon Falls, Home Building Centre, Giant Tiger, Loblaws, Valu-Mart, and Sobeys in Fenelon Falls.

Tag Day is one of the association’s biggest fundraisers of the year, helping cover costs, such as equipment, ice time, and tournament fees for players across all age divisions.

“We’re so proud of how our girls represented the Lynx in the community,” said, association president, Julie Crowder. “It’s always great to see their enthusiasm and the amazing support we get from residents and local businesses year after year.”

The event also provides a chance for players to connect with the community which cheers them on from the stands.

“I really liked meeting people and talking about hockey,” said, Lynx U11 player, Everley, who spent her Tag Day at Home Building Centre. “Lots of people told us they used to play or have kids in hockey too.”

Parents and volunteers echoed that sense of community spirit.

“It’s not just about raising money, it’s about showing the girls how much teamwork matters, both on and off the ice,” added volunteer parent Sarah McLean. “They learn how to give back and see the community believes in them.”

Mona Lisa Routh, the Lynx fundraising and sponsorship chair, said, the success of Tag Day will have a real impact on the season ahead. “Every dollar we raise helps keep girls’ hockey affordable and accessible,” she said. “The support from local businesses and residents really shows how much this community cares about the sport and our players.”

With another Tag Day in the books, the Lindsay Lynx Girls Hockey Association extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success, from the players on the sidewalks to the customers who stopped to donate.
