BLACKSTOCK by Tammy Phillips

Hopefully everyone is doing well under the circumstances. The Township of Scugog has extended the closure of all public facilities, parks, playgrounds and recreation amenities, and cancellation of programs. This extension will remain in place until July 3rd. The extension of the closures and cancellations of programs and events applies to both township-led events and third-party event permits. They have also suspended bookings for all township facilities and sports until July 3rd. The 2020 edition of Blackstock Tractor and Truck Pull is also cancelled. Ontario’s school closures have been extended and e-learning will remain in effect until at least May 31st. Remember, there is a burn ban in effect. You can email Blackstock community news items to link2tammy@gmail.com by 12 noon on Monday, prior to publication.

Blackstock Cartwright Lions Club by Eleanor Colwell Well, it happened! Last Saturday afternoon 20 new Lions from all across Canada were received via an online ceremony into membership of the largest service organization in the world, Lions Clubs International. Our own Lions, Yvonne Degeus and Timothy Martyn, were among those inducted. This was a first for our Lions …. a virtual induction, and in both official languages. We were so pleased that Lion Tim spoke up at the end to acknowledge the fact that he was a third generation Lion in our Club. His Dad, Blair Martyn, was a Past President of our Club and his Grandfather, Roy Turner, was a Charter Member in 1980. We look forward to these new Lions bringing in more members to help grow our service to the community.
