Five of our North Durham United FC competitive rep teams kicked off their respective 2017 regular seasons this past week, and it turned out to be a very successful string of games, with four victories and one close defeat.
The U14G dismantled Peterborough by a lopsided 6-1 score.
Talia S led the way with a pair of goals, to go along with singles from Nikki S, Emma M, Jessica T, and Maya K.
Coach Rob Magnante and his U15G team picked up right where they left off last year, with a convincing 2-0 win over Cavan. After last year's hugely successful season, and despite the team losing a handful of players, the revamped squad had a great debut, with goals coming from Rebecca C and Erika R. Flawless goaltending, by Emmalise M, led to the early season shutout.
The U13G showed a strong will, dropping a close 2-1 game to Peterborough, with Jessica P hitting the back of the net.
On the boys side, the U13B won their opener by a score of 3-1. This team, coached by Drew Ferraro, is anticipating a very successful season. Goals came from Ethan C, Matthew G, and Jack D.
The always tenacious U17B, sponsored by Trading Post Quality Foods, worked hard for 90+ minutes, to secure a 1-0 victory over powerhouse Pickering. The boys played with just a couple of subs, and through some nagging injuries, to earn the three points.
The lone goal scorer was Utica resident Liam Wilks, with outstanding performances coming from Gibson Baird, Julian Fadalti, and Ethan Fehr. The man of the match was goalkeeper David Hoover, who made a number of terrific saves and came out of his net to clear loose balls all night long.
The club's Picture Day was held at the Scugog Fields, last Saturday, and everyone seemed to have a good time, despite some iffy weather during the day. A big thanks goes to all the student and board volunteers who helped out, and to Myra Saunderson for organizing the event.
TFC demolished Columbus, last Friday, with a couple of goals coming from Canadian players. The Reds are first in the league, with only one loss on the season.
