UXBRIDGE: Uxbridge Secondary School‘s junior and senior girls rugby teams victorious at the LOSSA finals, held at Vikings Rugby Club, Raglan, today.
The junior Tigers defeated Ajax earlier in the week, and qualified for the Championship game against a powerful team from Port Perry High School.
The first fifteen minutes was a tightly contested match, with some tremendous efforts by Port which kept the Tigers on their 22, however, the Tigers remarkable defensive game kept Port from scoring.
The Tigers' commanding display over Port resulted in three tries by Shannon Hollands and one by Chavonne Truter.
Port scored a try with 5 minutes left, but the Tigers powerful team ended the season as Champions, with a 20-5 win.
“Both teams rostered extremely talented players, and Port won this championship the last six years”, said coach McKee. “I am very proud of this young team, and what they were able to accomplish. They kept the best for last.”
LOSSA is the final game for the junior team.
The senior team’s convincing win over Pickering, at 29-0, qualified them to play in the OFFSA Championships, Durham Region, starting on Monday, May 29th, 2017; with the finals scheduled to be held on May 31st, 2017, at the Vikings Rugby Club.
