KAWARTHA LAKES: The Lindsay Muskies got off to a better start in this match but Cobourg went five for five on the power play while picking up a 7-3 victory.
The Muskies grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 8 minute mark when Tyler Challis notched his 1st OJHL goal. The goal was assisted by Greg Arnburg. The Cougars struck back on a power play though at 16:32, when George Miranda scored from Connor MacEachern and Matthew Bumstead.
Brendan Tomilson’s 2nd goal of the season put the Fish in front again 3:59, of the second period. Joey Campbell got the first assist while the other went to Challis. That goal prompted Cobourg’s Head Coach Jerome Dupont to make a change in goal pulling Jorgen Johnson, in favour of Elliot Gerth. Before the period ended, though disaster struck the Muskies as they were handed two penalties in quick succession. The Cougars power play made them pay. Miranda’s 2nd of the game tied the score at 16:02, from Mac Lowry and Bryce Martin, then just 25 seconds later while still on the man advantage Lowry gave the Cougars a lead from Martin and MacEachern. That was how the second period would end.
A late Muskies penalty in the second meant that the Cougars would start the third with a man advantage, and once again they took advantage when Martin scored just 57 seconds in from MacEachern to make the lead 4-2. At 5:15, Jacob Ball scored for the Cougars to open a three goal lead. Jacob Black and Brodie McDougall were awarded the helpers. The Cougars power play was on fire and when given another opportunity MacEachern scored from Ryan Porter and Miranda at the 7:20 point of the period. The Muskies were able to get that one right back though when Braydon Leeking’s 14th of the year made the score 6-3 at 7:49, from Cam Robinson and Cam Supryka. The Cougars had one more goal in them and it went to Ethan Doyle at 17:25. McDougall picked up the lone assist.
Maxim Clouser made 49 saves while taking the loss in goal.
The next match for the Muskies is Friday night when they host Whitby.
