Special to The Standard
The Lindsay Muskies got off to a great start on Friday night, but ultimately the Cobourg Cougars gained the upper hand, defeating the Muskies by a score of 7-2.
Muskies forward Kalvyn Watson continued his hot streak of late, by opening the scoring at the 1:08 mark, with the assists going to Jake Rauch and Mathieu Hebert. The goal was Watson’s 4th in his last two games, and his 12th of the season. That line struck again at 4:25, when Rauch scored his 3rd of the year, from Curtis Trolley and Watson, to give Lindsay a 2-0 lead. Brock Welsh would get the Cougars on the board at 12:28 of the first though, and that’s the way the teams would head to the dressing room.
In the second period the Cougars took control. Brett Bannister scored his first of three in the night, at 9:44, from Jacob Breckles and Riley McCutcheon. Late in the period the Cats would add two more. Noah Hippolyte-Smith scored at 17:14, from Coleton Cianci and Breckles, then Mac lowry added an unassisted goal with only one second left on the clock.
Bannister scored his 2nd of the night at 5:26, from McCutcheon and Welsh, then he completed his hat-trick with a power play goal, from Welsh and Ryan Porter, at 8:33. Porter would add another power play goal, at 18:35 from Welsh, to round out the scoring.
The Muskies have only three games remaining on the schedule.
On Sunday they are in Trenton. Thursday they travel to Toronto to face the Patriots, then they close out their season, at home against Kingston, Friday night.
