Dedication to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in sports, led to a pair of Uxbridge Township staffers recently being named as finalists for the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Community Partner Award.
Earlier this year, those involved with Jumpstart were asked to nominate community partners that had gone above-and-beyond to support Jumpstart initiatives. Amanda Ferraro and Rebecca Harman were nominated for the honour by Uxbridge Canadian Tire owner Pat Higgins.
“Both of these ladies give many selfless hours of their time to support and promote Jumpstart in our community,” Mr. Higgins said in his nomination. “Through their efforts, I believe that we have one of the strongest Jumpstart programs across the country.”
Since the program launched in Uxbridge in 2005, more than $180,000 has been raised to support more than 1,700 local children and youth to participate in a host of activities, ranging from minor hockey to dance, swimming, soccer, and more. Last year, the Uxbridge Jumpstart chapter raised more than $53,000, with every single dollar put back into the community, helping keep children and youth active and engaged in recreational activities.
