KAWARTHA LAKES: The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is projecting they will see a $2.2 million surplus at the end of the 2022/2023 fiscal year.

At a board meeting on Tuesday, April 11th, Superintendent Tim Ellis presented the second quarter treasurer’s report to trustees.

A report included in the meeting agenda states the operating budget for the 2022/2023 school year totals $233 million dollars.

“For the second quarter report, revised estimates submitted to the Ministry in the fall of 2022, indicate that the Board’s revenue should be approximately $240.2 million. This is an increase of $6 million from the Board’s revenues submitted to the Ministry in June 2022,” the report explained.

Classroom teacher expenditures dropped by $3 million, but classroom technology costs increased.

“School operations and maintenance continues to experience budget pressures through the completion of the Covid-19 Resilience Infrastructure stream (CVRIS) funding and through unrealized transfers to our capital budget,” the report added.

Superintendent Ellis said, “Senior staff [are] taking a look at ways to make sure the surplus is managed effectively.”
