The Fenelon Falls Senior Citizens’ Club 50th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraising Program s

MARGARET CUNNINGHAM, Fundraising Liaison FFSCC

FENELON FALLS: The Fenelon Falls Senior Citizens’ Club (FFSCC) celebrated a significant milestone in June, commemorating 50 years of club operations and service to the community. On a warm June afternoon, there was a wonderful social connection, story sharing, prize-winning, cake cutting and much celebration.

Attending the celebration, Laurie Scott, M.P.P. Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes – Brock, took the opportunity to present to Jean Smith, the longstanding club president, a 50th Anniversary congratulatory scroll. Laurie also stepped in to draw the winning grand raffle tickets. Congratulations were extended to all prize winners. They were as follows: 1st prize of $3000 cash – Anne Kulmala, who was in attendance to receive her prize, 2nd prize of $1500 Sobey’s gift cards – Chris Handley, 3rd prize Dinner/Theatre Combo – Jan Craig Worrall, 4th prize tree/planting Rockwood – Heather Hume, 5th prize Gift certificate KATVA – John Ireland.

The Club once again thanked all those supporting the current fundraising efforts. There is much appreciation for all who bought tickets, sold tickets and helped promote the Club. It could not have been such a success without their energy and support. Many thanks go to all the generous sponsors who have made this fundraising event and celebration possible, at this time of such hardship for so many. It is never more evident, than during difficult times, the importance of supporting local businesses as they support our community. There is much appreciation and thanks for the community partners who have contributed to the corporate sponsor appeal, which has already demonstrated amazing generosity and commitment.

This summer, the Club is looking forward to welcoming increased participation and engagement with community groups and individuals, interested in sharing this amazing venue and community facility. However, the sustainability challenge still exists, and efforts continue to raise much-needed funds. Progress has been made, but much more support is required.

The Corporate and Business Partners appeal continues, as the Club endeavours to further secure a strong and viable future for this much-loved community asset, at 58 Murray Street in Fenelon Falls. Watch out for renewed contact and in the meantime, be in touch to make a financial contribution or to inquire about the community partners program. Call 705-879-2719 or email margaret@jacksgroup.ca.

The Seniors Citizens’ Club of Fenelon and its members have served the needs of the Fenelon Falls seniors for more than 50 years. It is a not-for-profit, registered charitable organization with its entire operating budget coming from club membership fees, fees from club activities, donations, rental contracts, and fundraising activities. New members are always welcome. An application can be picked up at the Club or by visiting our website. The small and dedicated group of volunteers, who offer years of experience running this amazing organization and this building, has grown smaller, and there is an urgent need for additional volunteers to ensure the facility remains open and available for all who use it. The club board invites existing club members and/or community members to step up and get involved. All support and assistance is welcome.

Inquiries on how to assist and support, both in volunteer time and financial contributions, are welcomed and encouraged. Please call 705-887-7007, visit www.fenelonseniors.com or check us out on Facebook, at:

https://www.facebook.com/FenelonFallsSeniorCitizensClub/ for further information on the venue, rentals, club membership and activities.
