Still time for Kawartha Lakes Youth award nominations

DAN CEARNS, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, for The Standard

KAWARTHA LAKES: The Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes (BGCKL) Foundation is inviting people to recognize exceptional local youth.

Nominations were opened last month for the second annual Kawartha Lakes Youth Awards, an initiative created last year to honour community members aged 12 to 24. Nominations close on Friday, February 26th.

“Last year, sixty nominations were received, from a variety of sources throughout the community, all highlighting extraordinary youth. Their stories were inspiring and reinforce that the future of our community is in excellent hands,” read a BGCKL press release. “We are inviting you to submit [the name of] an exceptional youth so we can recognize them for their achievements.” Some of the categories youth can be nominated for include: Arts Achievement, Humanitarian work, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and BGCKL Club Spirit.

A date for the 2021 awards ceremony has not yet been set, due to the ongoing changing of COVID-19 pandemic regulations. To nominate a youth, and for the full list of youth award categories, go online to www.bgckl.com.
