DURHAM: Station Gallery is proud to partner with Durham College to present the creative output of Foundations and Fine Arts Advanced students via an in-gallery exhibit that will be showcased from April 1st to 28th. The show will also feature an online award ceremony and walk-through on Thursday, April 22nd, at 7 p.m. It will be live-streamed on the Station Gallery Facebook page.
The popular, term-end exhibition showcases and introduces a new generation of artists and college graduates to the community,” explained Kerri King, CEO of Station Gallery. “Hundreds of diverse and engaging art projects will be on display. It’s a must-see for art lovers in the community who are keen on scoping out new artist talent and artwork.”
The annual art show began at the college 19 years ago. It expanded to include the Station Gallery as a host venue in 2008. After a pause in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gallery welcomes back Durham College Fine Art & Design students to submit and exhibit their rich and conceptually engaging studio productions. This year’s exhibit focuses on preliminary explorations, idea developments and final projects addressing the complex challenges of the 21st century.
“I’m personally most curious to see how process and content may have changed from previous editions,” shared Olex Wlasenko, Curator for Station Gallery. “Poised on a path as practicing artists, this year’s Durham College students will showcase their academic and creative journeys. We’re eager to see these internal deliberations and visual synergies play out on the Station Gallery stage.”
“From my vantage, often on the other end of a remote camera set up, our students have had the most challenging of creative times this year. They’ve been doing their very best to remain optimistic and motivated while they work mostly at home, in their bedrooms, dining rooms and unheated garages,” stated Sean McQuay, professor, Fine Arts at Durham College. “This superior exhibition is testimony to their resourcefulness in the face of it all as they’ve created a multitude of intriguing and engaging artworks. They have gone way above giving it ‘the old college try,’ and we are so proud of them!”
