It’s hard to believe, but we are in the last month of 2019! And only 21 more sleeps until Christmas! Have you finished your Christmas shopping, or have you even started? ‘Tis that time of year, and we are busy preparing to help others. We have adopted a family through Operation Scugog and also a local family. A list of needed items is in the Great Room. There is a Worry Doll fundraiser at a cost of $10 each with 100 percent of the funds being donated to victims of sexual assault, domestic assault, abuse, gender-based violence and domestic human trafficking. Young Jackson planted a seed in August as a project with the VIBE program, and with patience and watering is now proudly displaying a healthy blooming plant. This Sunday, the greeters at Seagrave United Church were Doris and Roger Bullock and they also did the reading and lit the 1st Advent candle of Hope. John Olivero lit the Christ candle. Tara Bailey-Taylor read the Mission and Service report. The service theme was Hanging of the Greens. Dale Goddard read the scriptures, and Minister Stephanie read an explanation of the placements, as the choir and congregation sang appropriate Christmas carols. Elizabeth Redshaw placed mistletoe beside the Bible, Jane Pettinger placed a star, a cross and a bell on the Christmas tree. Betty Lou Beacock and Wendy Hudgins arranged the nativity scene, Brooke Acton placed holly and ivy on the piano, and Barb Martyn placed a red poinsettia beside the Christ candle, followed by a communion service. December 7th – Greenbank and Seagrave United Churches will be participating together in the Santa Claus parade in Port Perry at 4:00 p.m. You are welcome to join us at the Port Perry Fair grounds. December 7th – Salem Church Candle Light Service and carol sing is at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Salem Church is located at the intersection of Salem Rd. and Fingerboard Rd., Kawartha Lakes. December 8th – 9:15 a.m. White Gift Sunday. Please bring new mitts, hats, scarves, wool work socks for men and women, to be donated to those experiencing homelessness. December 8th – 3 p.m. A Christmas Carol Reading at St. Andrews United Church, Sunderland. Tickets are $20. Following the reading of Dicken’s Classic will be a reception of cider, tea, coffee and snacks. A donation of a non-perishable food item would be appreciated. December 10th – Out to Lunch is at 12 noon in the Friendship Hall. The menu includes the following: casseroles, salads and Christmas pudding. There will be entertainment, carol singing and door prizes. A freewill offering and donations to the Scugog Food Bank will be gratefully accepted. They can always use paper products. The subject to be discussed is Luke 2, The Birth of Jesus. This will be the wrap-up evening for 2019. All are welcome. December 14th – 8:30 a.m. Men’s Group Breakfast at the Blue Heron Casino. The “Walk with me Group” is on Wednesdays in Seagrave at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
