LIV TYMON, SWHL President Special to The Standard
Scugog Women’s Hockey League (SWHL) president Liv Tymon announced their players are donating $3,500 to Durham Region not-for-profit organizations: Operation Scugog, The Port Perry Hospital Foundation, and North House. As a consequence of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, the league’s ice time was cancelled by the Township of Scugog, in compliance with social distancing protocols. The league’s ice fees are being refunded, and the SWHL membership opted to, instead, donate those funds to local charities, rather than accept the reimbursements. “Our executive staff decided to take the opportunity to offer our members a refund or to join the executive staff in making a charitable donation to our local food bank, hospital foundation and North House,” said Ms. Tymon. “This is just one way how our community is coming together to turn one disappointing scenario into a very positive opportunity,” she added. The SWHL donated $1,500 to Operation Scugog, $1,500 to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation and $500 to North House.
