SCUGOG: For the first time ever, the Port Perry High School (PPHS) put together a girls’ softball team this autumn, for the 2025/26 year. The season kicked off in early September with tryouts and a few practices, followed by a short season.
The Rebels hosted All Saints Catholic High School (CHS) on September 23rd, at Joe Fowler Park, and won the home opener 12-2! They traveled to Whitby for a double header on October 2nd, defeating Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute (CVI) and All Saints 16-0 and 14-1! Their last league game was on October 6th, at Optimist Park, where they defeated Anderson 8-3, securing their spot in the finals. The Rebels came to play on October 9th, facing the winner of the All Saints vs. Anderson semifinal. They went on to win 20-4 against All Saints, clinching the title of Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association's Triple-A (LOSSA-AAA) Fastpitch Champions!
This team also participated in the Provincial Women’s Softball Association Debbie DeMoel High School Classic on September 29th, in Cambridge. Competing against six other teams, the Rebels placed third in this one-day tournament, falling short to College Avenue Secondary School (SS), the defending champs.
A special thanks to Mrs. Dwyer, Mr. Shelswell, and Mr. Yaneff, PPHS staff, and parent volunteers Heather and Lorilee for making this team happen. We are eager to continue building this program at the school and are excited to defend the title next year!

Always great seeing local teams like the PPHS Rebels making headlines — school sports have that raw energy you just don’t get in professional leagues. The way they kept composure through the finals says a lot about coaching and team chemistry. I was following the scores online and the momentum shift was wild to watch. Out of curiosity, I checked a few match stats through access 1xBet site since they usually have broader coverage for regional events. It’s cool to see even smaller championships getting recognition now. Moments like this remind you why grassroots sports matter so much.
