KAWARTHA LAKES: The Ontario government is investing $44,500 towards a project to improve water quality in Kawartha Lakes.
On Wednesday, July 21st, MPP Laurie Scott announced, in a press release, the government would be providing these funds towards a Kawartha Conservation project. According to the press release, the project is intended to enhance “nearshore water quality and aquatic plant management in the Kawartha Lakes, Lake Ontario Drainage Basin.”
The press release added, this will be done “through citizen science and implementing cost-effective recommendations to improve nearshore conditions along waterfronts.”
The government also invested in a Tri-Region Community-Based Benthos Biomonitoring Project in Haliburton. The money is coming from the province’s Great Lakes Local Action Fund.
“This is a great initiative to support local projects which protect and restore coastal, shoreline and nearshore areas of the Great Lakes,” Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP Laurie Scott said, in a statement.
