New playground coming to Sunderland

DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard BROCK TOWNSHIP: Local residents will be able to enjoy a new playground in Sunderland this fall.

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, the township announced that there would be a new playground installed in September on the greenspace near Albert St. South and Antioch Ct.

“This is going to be a lovely spot for the neighbourhood to gather, with a play structure suitable for ages two to twelve,” commented Ward 5 Councillor Lynn Campbell. She added that that the area will also several other user-friendly features including trees, bike racks, garbage cans and benches.

Earlier this year, councillors approved a funding request from Sunderland Public School's community council to allocate funds from the township golf tournament towards replacing the playground at the school. This should clear the way for new equipment there as well after several years of fundraising by the school community.

A press release from the township noted that installation of the new Antioch Ct. playground is scheduled for the week of September 18, and that staff will be undertaking site preparation in the weeks ahead.
