Lumberjacks win their last couple of games

SCUGOG: The Port Perry Lumberjacks defeated the Lakefield Chiefs and the Little Britain Merchants recently.

The Lumberjacks opened this past week’s action on Tuesday, November 14th against the Chiefs in Lakefield. Less than six and a half minutes into the first period, Andrew Naccarato-Soule scored the first goal of the game, giving Port Perry an early 1-0 lead. A little over nine minutes later, Quinn Arnott extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal.

Over a minute into the second period, Naccarato-Soule scored his second goal of the game, making it a 3-0 score. The game would remain that score until late in the period. Seventeen and a half minutes in, the Chiefs would put the puck in the net, cutting the lead to 3-1. But Arnott would score his second goal of the game on a Lumberjack power play, before the period ended, and the score was 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Parker Lemay would add an empty net goal late in the period, and the Lumberjacks defeated the Chiefs 5-1.

The Lumberjacks’ winning ways continued on Saturday, November 18th when they faced the Merchants in Little Britain.

The game was scoreless until late in the first period. With less than three minutes remaining on the first period clock, Braedyn Vannetten struck to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Just 17 seconds later, Lemay scored, extending the lead to 2-0.

Over a minute and a half into the second period, the Merchants put the puck past goaltender Vann Kulba, cutting the lead in half. But, three minutes later, Kyle Robillard scored his first goal as a Lumberjack. Robillard had been acquired recently in a trade with the Penetang Kings. The Merchants would score late in the period, and the game was 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.

A little over a minute into the third period, Naccarato-Soule was granted a penalty shot and capitalized on it, scoring to extend the lead to 4-2. The Merchants would score a little over two minutes later, but the Port Perry Lumberjacks held on to win the game 4-3.

One Timers:

- The Lumberjacks have only one game scheduled this week. On Friday, November 24th they will be playing a rare Friday home game at Scugog Arena against the North Kawartha Knights. That game will get underway at 7:25 p.m.
