Lumberjacks preparing for hockey season


DAN CEARNS The Standard SCUGOG: The Port Perry Lumberjacks are gearing up for what they hope will be a successful season.

The local Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) team opened training camp, on Monday, August 21st. They will have their first pre-season game, at Scugog Arena, on Friday, August 25th, against the Little Britain Merchants. The game will start at 7:35 p.m.

The team's pre-season schedule will continue, on Wednesday, August 30th, when they host the Orillia Terriers, at Scugog Arena at 7:35 p.m.

The Lumberjacks will play a game in Orillia, on Tuesday, September 5th, before finishing their pre-season action with the annual Alliston Hornets tournament, taking place from September 8th until September 9th.

The Lumberjacks' regular season begins on Saturday, September 16th, when they play in Georgina against the Ice. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. The Lumberjacks will play their first home game of the season at Scugog Arena, the next day, on Sunday, September 17th. They will face the Little Britain Merchants in that game, with puck drop being held at 2:25 p.m.

The first 500 fans will receive a free LumberJacks t-shirt and admission is free for any fan wearing any of the local hockey organizations' merchandise or fan gear. These can include: the Lumberjacks, Central Ontario Wolves, North Durham Warriors, Scugog Hockey League, Scugog Women's Hockey League and the North Durham Blades.
