Lindsay Muskies vs Wellington Dukes Sunday Afternoon

CRAIG SCHROTER Special to The Standard

KAWARTHA LAKES: The Lindsay Muskies led for two periods in Wellington on Sunday afternoon, but the Dukes are always one of the toughest teams around and a big third period saw them come back to defeat the Muskies by a score of 5 to 2.

The Muskies got off to a perfect start when Curtis Trolley scored just 9 seconds in from Logan Maunder. At 13:25 Trolley tallied again to make it 2 to 0 from Will Jones. Although the Muskies led after the first a lot of the credit has to go to goaltender Andrew Vigliatore, who made 17 saves in the opening frame.

The Dukes picked up the only goal of the second period. It went to Dylan Massie on a power play at the 6:00 minute mark. Although the Dukes held an edge in shots again in the second, the Fish took a 2 to 1 lead into the third period.

In the third the Dukes came to life and made their move. Dawson Ellis tied the game at 2:54 then Jake Gagnon put them up by a 3 to 2 count at 4:56. Massie got the insurance goal at 14:20, then Daniel Panette added an empty net goal to seal the deal at 18:26.

The next action for Lindsay is Friday night when they host The Toronto Patriots.
