KAWARTHA LAKES: The Lindsay Muskies saved one of their best games for the final home game of the season dropping a tough 2 to 1 decision in overtime to the Cobourg Cougars.
The night started off with a nice ceremony to honour players who are ageing out at the end of the season from both teams. Lindsay Muskie’s goaltender Andrew Vigliatore was honoured, along with former Muskie’s Captain and current Cougar Noah Vandervinne. Each was presented with jerseys prior to the game (pictured are Muskies General Manager Sal Polito, Noah Vandervinne, Andrew Vigliatore and Muskies Head Coach Brendan O’Grady).
Also honoured were Cobourg players Nick Aromatario, Michael Olszewski, Kenny Styles, Mac Lowry and Dershahn Stewart.
The game was intense at times and evenly played resulting in no goals through the first two periods. In the third period, it was Thomas Johnston opening the scoring for the Fish on a power play from Logan Maunder and Mathieu Hebert at 6:27. The Fish fought hard to defend the lead and the shutout bid for Vigliatore but at 14:42 Stephan McDonald jammed home a rebound to tie the game at 1 to 1.
Each team had good opportunities to score in the overtime frame, but it was Kenny Styles jamming a puck into the Lindsay goal with one minute left in the opening overtime frame to give the Cougars the victory.
Lindsay’s final game of the season is Saturday night in Toronto against the Patriots.
