Letter to the Editor: Refugee Reunification Support Group

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my admiration for the Port Perry Refugee Reunification Support Group and the generous people of Port Perry.

I was able to give a couple of hours of my time Friday to help set up for their Saturday yard sale. I was blown away by the quantity and quality of goods donated by those who had heeded the call. Not just the usual yard sale knick knacks and tchotchkes; you could have furnished a house! Sofas and chairs; dining sets, dressers and sideboards; beds and bureaus. Enough tools to equip a mechanic’s shop.

Then there was the army of volunteers who sorted and arranged the donations. It looked like an entire neighborhood had turned out to help, buzzing around like bees with boxes of assorted items, deciding where each treasure should be displayed.

I’m waiting to hear how much they raised to support the next family coming to Canada. Judging by what I saw Friday, I’m sure they did well!
