KAWARTHA LAKES: The City of Kawartha Lakes will look at possibly restricting commercial trucks from using four more rural roads in the municipality.
At a meeting on Tuesday, November 2nd, Ward 8 Councillor Tracy Richardson brought forward a memorandum to have city staff “review the By-Law which restricts commercial truck traffic on rural roads” and to bring back a report to council early next year which considers adding Yelverton Road, Ballyduff Road, Waite Road, and Drum Road for inclusion in this truck traffic bylaw.
“This particular memo is definitely hitting close to home for me. It’s been a complete summer of emails, texts, [and] phone calls. People [are] showing up at my front door. They’re mad. We’ve got some truck traffic out there [which] starts at 5 a.m. in the morning and goes until 5 p.m. at night,” Councillor Richardson explained. “[These roads] can’t take that type of pounding. They’re just done.”
She added, the four roads listed in her motion “are not sufficient [to] support the growing number of commercial vehicles” which use them. Ward 4 Councillor Andrew Veale suggested the report also include how the City can “better enforce” truck traffic bylaws on these types of roads.
