COURTNEY McCLURE The Standard

BROCK: On October 2nd, there will be a Mayor's Networking Event, at the Sunderland Town Hall. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends around 7:30 p.m.

The Township of Brock is suggesting pre-registering, by the September 27th. To pre-register for this event, please visit the Township of Brock website.

The last time the Township of Brock hosted the Mayors Networking Event was in 2019.

Two of these events are hosted each year, one in the spring and another during the autumn. In past years, these events were organized for local businesses, giving them an opportunity to network. This year, the spring event was organized for local business owners and the autumn event is aimed towards non-profit organizations and groups, so they may network with others in their community.

“We are hoping to provide [attendees] with as much information [as we can] which they can use for planning events... and make them more successful,” explained, the clerk’s assistant for Brock Township, Stefanie Stickwood.

Ms. Stickwood said, she enjoys attending this event because she gets to meet various non-profit business owners from Brock Township.

“It’s nice to put a face to the people we talk to,” she said, explaining how communication is usually completed through email exchanges.

During the networking event, Walter Schummer, the Mayor of Brock Township, will be sharing a few municipal updates. These updates will include Township recreation updates, information about the Sunderland Arena project and more.

The Brock Township Non-Profit Sector Advisory Committee (NPSAC) will also be attending this event.

The NPSAC will discuss the “achievements” they have had throughout the year, and explain how attendees can connect with them.

Mayor Schummer will explain how non-profits and community groups can apply for support, from the Township, and what types of support the Township offers for these respective groups..

There will also be a discussion on the importance of insurance when organizing events within Brock Township.

According to Ms. Stickwood, many non-profit organizations and groups use a lottery system to raise funds for their respective organization. So, during this event, discussion will provide attendees with information about obtaining a lottery license for their respective organization.

In addition, attendees will learn how to apply for grants and loans for their respective organization or group. The event will continue after presentations conclude, giving attendees a chance to network with one another.
