Hot off the presses: The Nog

COURTNEY McCLURE, for The Standard

UXBRIDGE: Have you ever wondered if there was a creature living around Lake Scugog? Don’t tell your kids.

Writer, Dave Rolston and illustrator Rob Westall have published their first book together. The book is titled The Nog.

“What is a Nog you say… well, let me put it this way,” quoted the author, Mr. Rolston. He described the book as a tale about a fictional creature living in the bog North of Lake Scugog in Port Perry.

“It’s fun,” said Mr. Rolston, referring to the book adding, “It’s a fun little book to read to grandkids, or young kids.” He estimated the demographic The Nog would appeal to would be kids around the age of eight.

The first copy of The Nog sold around late September or early October and has sold about 20 to 30 copies since its publication. Dave said he and his friend, Rob, might consider collaborating on another book. “Dr. Suess started somewhere,” he shared with a laugh. They have been friends for a few years, having worked together at Parish Lanes, the bowling alley in Uxbridge. “We’re a team,” explained Mr. Rolston, “You can’t have one without the other.”

Mr. Westall draws caricatures and did the illustrations for The Nog. He has a website called OddNogginz.net with his business and contact information. The Nog is available on Amazon for $17.15, at Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge and Books Galore and More in Port Perry.
