Great participation for Roads 101 in Kawartha Lakes

KAWARTHA LAKES: Since September, the municipality has hosted seven Roads 101 Roundtables, across the communities that compose the City of Kawartha Lakes. The tour saw 300 residents and 48 panelists, take part in the discussions. “The Roads 101 Roundtables delivered a variety of important comments and suggestions,” said Deputy Mayor Doug Elmslie. “All the recommendations are currently being compiled, for a final report that we look forward to bringing to Council soon. I believe we’ve achieved our goal, of providing residents with solid information, about the challenges the municipality faces with our road network, and Councillors and Senior Roads Staff have reached a better understanding, of constituents’ issues and concerns. Thank you to all the panelists and residents that came out, it was a pleasure hearing from you.” They will compile recommendations from each session, into a report, to be presented to Council later this year. The report will include a full list of recommendations, however some common themes in the recommendations were: expand resources and funding, to improve the life cycle maintenance of roads, ramping up the amount of upgrades to renew roads in need, and stronger enforcement of heavy trucks and oversized loads, to protect roads. The municipality thanks everyone who provided questions, and feedback. The City’s new online engagement site ‘Jump In Kawartha Lakes’, allows residents to join the conversation, on issues and projects, affecting the community. We’ve received valuable feedback about our roads, through the platform and encourage residents to continue using it, to have their say on a variety of municipal issues, and projects going forward.
