BLACKSTOCK by Tammy Phillips

Despite some warm sunny days recently, winter is clearly on it’s way. Durham has quickly moved from Yellow to Orange with Ontario’s recently unveiled COVID-19 colour-coded framework and restrictions. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blackstock Co-op Nursery School (BCNS) is unable to host its Annual Breakfast with Santa and Friends. This is BCNS’s largest fundraising event which normally hosts over 450 people from Blackstock and surrounding communities. The pancake breakfast, silent auction, bake sale and photos with Santa provide the non-profit nursery school with a large portion of its yearly operating funds. Instead, this year, the non-profit nursery school is hosting a ‘Tis the Season Online Silent Auction on their website at the following address: https://www.blackstocknurseryschool.ca. Held exclusively online, bidding will open on Friday, November 20th at 6 p.m. and will close on Friday, December 6th at 6 p.m. Winners will be contacted within 24 hours of closing. A number of impressive donations will be available for bidding on, including: an overnight stay and breakfast for two at Nestleton Waters Inn; Brimacombe lift tickets for two; Mini Photo Session with Rachel Callan Photography; $100 gift certificate from Wotten Carpentry; Gourmet Gift Basket from Willowtree Farms; and the newly-released and sold-out everywhere PS5 courtesy of Engage Hydrovac Services. The non-profit nursery school has been committed to providing a positive learning experience for children and their families in Blackstock and its surrounding areas for almost 45 years. BCNS will also be holding its Annual General Meeting for all members on Monday, November 23rd at 8 p.m. Due to COVID-19, the meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. News and items for consideration can be emailed to link2tammy@gmail.com by 12 noon on the Monday prior to publication date.
