UXBRIDGE: Allan McGillivray has been painting for 50 years. Many people don’t realize that the retired teacher, curator, author, and beloved member of our community, is also an accomplished artist. Over Allan’s life, painting has been an absorbing hobby. He has found his subjects – landscapes and points of interest and beauty – not far from the Zephyr and Uxbridge area where he has lived and worked. His pictures show a love of beautiful vistas, skies, hills, and trees, and his intense interest in local history has drawn him to old buildings and with a past, and of course the stories in those pasts. Allan has been a guide and mentor to the Lucy Maud Montgomery Society, contributing his knowledge of the history of Leaskdale and the life and times of its famous author to the restoration of the Leaskdale National Historic Site. Starting this week and continuing until Labor Day September 2nd, Allan’s pictures will be on display at the Historic Leaskdale Church. The Art Show will open this Saturday, August 24th, at 3 p.m., upstairs in the church. At that time Allan McGillivray will be on hand to talk about his pictures, and probably to tell a few anecdotes. Refreshments will be served downstairs following the opening. Everyone is encouraged to come and view this collection of beautiful paintings so relevant to the past life of our community.
