SCUGOG: The Scugog community is in mourning following the loss of its first Mayor Lawrence Malcolm. Mr. Malcolm passed away on Tuesday, January 14th at the age of 100. “Lawrence served as the first Mayor of the newly amalgamated Township of Scugog Council in 1974 until 1978 and was the Reeve of Cartwright from 1968 [until] 1973. My late husband served as a Ward Councillor under his leadership and I remember him fondly. He was dedicated to his family and community. Mr. Mayor, you will be missed, but not forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to the family,” read a statement from Scugog Mayor, Bobbie Drew. Mr. Malcolm was born on his family’s farm in Nestleton, which he took over in 1948. He and his wife Gwen farmed in the North Nestleton area for 30 years. The public is invited to sign a book of condolences inside the Scugog municipal office at 181 Perry Street, in Port Perry.
