Scugog firefighters help to rescue a horse from a well

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: Scugog firefighters were tasked with a unique situation in late May, saving a horse from a well.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 30th, at a property on Scugog Line 8. Local firefighters worked with the Port Perry Veterinary Clinic and Pindar’s Towing to rescue the animal.

Scugog Fire Chief Mark Berney called this moment “a good news story.”

“After a couple of tough weeks, it was an interesting phone call when Captain [Todd] Soomre call[ed] me to say ‘we have a horse down a well.’ I asked him to repeat himself. He did, and then he described the well,” he said.

The Chief explained, firefighters “went to work,” following the call, with the help of the vet clinic and the towing company, and got the mare “back on her feet and enjoying life again.”

Chief Berney reported, the horse is “being taken care of” and “things are good.”
